Lucas Blalock’s Souvenir Cinema began with a commission to make a book length work about St. Moritz—the latest edition in a series of monographic books by photographers looking at the town under the banner Souvenir St. Moritz. Blalock’s Souvenir No. 5 takes this commission quite literally and collects a suite of 67 posters advertising both the town and the project itself.
Souvenir Cinema, presented at the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York, is the second phase of this investigation in which Blalock overlays an imaginary tourism bureau onto the consulate’s lobby as another means of exploring his St. Moritz of the mind.
Souvenir Cinema is part of Art @ The Consulate, a curatorial initiative by the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York.
